Consumer Unit Upgrade in South Lanarkshire

The Brief

A property in South Lanarkshire still had an outdated fuse board with no RCD protection, leaving the electrical installation short of current safety standards. The owner wanted the old board replaced with a modern consumer unit to bring the property up to date, reduce the risk of electric shock and fire, and gain the reassurance of a completion certificate. We assessed the existing wiring and confirmed the upgrade could be carried out without a full rewire.

What We Did

Our work included:

• Assessed the existing installation: Checked the old fuse board and the condition of the existing wiring to confirm the property was suitable for a consumer unit upgrade without a full rewire.
• Isolated the supply safely: Switched off and isolated the supply for the changeover, keeping disruption to a minimum while the work was carried out.
• Replaced the old fuse board: Removed the outdated board and installed a modern consumer unit fitted with RCD protection and circuit breakers as standard.
• Dressed the internal wiring: Reconnected every circuit with immaculate, well-dressed internal wiring for a safe and tidy finish.
• Tested every circuit: Carried out full testing of all circuits after the upgrade to confirm everything was working correctly and safely.
• Issued certification: Provided a completion certificate confirming the work meets BS 7671 standards.

The Result

A modern, safe electrical installation protected by RCDs and circuit breakers, bringing the property up to current BS 7671 standards. Every circuit was tested and a completion certificate was issued confirming compliance, with immaculate, well-dressed internal wiring left in the new consumer unit. The owner now has a significantly safer installation and clear documentation to prove it.
